Emperor Announce US Summer Tour: Norwegian Black Metal Band’s First Stateside Trek in Over 15 Years

Norwegian black metal legends Emperor have announced their first stateside tour in over 15 years with the “Anthems to Welken at Dusk” U.S. summer shows. The limited five-show run will hit select major markets across the United States beginning in June and will run through July. Chicago, Brooklyn, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Anaheim are the five lucky cities to be able to witness Emperor’s black metal rampage return to the United States!

Norwegian black metal has long been known for its anti-Christian sentiment and furious, violent sound. But one group in particular, Emperor, found a way to express these feelings in innovating and creative ways. Emperor’s music was recognized as groundbreaking and influential in the metal genre due to their unique approach to this style of expression.

The group was originally formed in 1991 by Ihsahn, Samoth, and Mortiis. Their savage 1994 debut album, ‘In the Nightside Eclipse’, is widely considered to be a landmark release that set the tone for the future of black metal and secured their place as a mainstay within the unholy genre. They were able to combine harsh vocals with complex guitar riffs and keyboards that created a sound unlike anything else at the time. Emperor’s lyrics often focused on dark themes such as death, destruction, and darkness, which made them quite popular with fans of extreme metal music.

Emperor are truly mad thrilled to bring their black metal rampage to the U.S. once again!

Emperor Announce Us Summer Tour: Norwegian Black Metal Band's First Stateside Trek In Over 15 Years! 2

Emperor’s second album, ‘Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk’, was recorded at the famous Grieg Hall throughout the fall of 1996 by famed black metal producer Eirik “Pytten” Hundvin. ‘Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk’, is an exploration into themes of darkness and despair, and features some of Emperor’s most iconic tracks. The album, which was released in 1997 (Candlelight Records), is widely considered to be a defining moment in the early Norwegian black metal scene. As it flawlessly captures the raw energy and emotion that characterized the genre at that time, and has since become a classic within the genre.

The recording process for ‘Anthems ‘To The Welkin At Dusk’ was incredibly challenging for Emperor due to both the technical difficulties with recording in such a large venue as well as the complex nature of their sound.

Ihsahn Expressing His Thoughts On Emperor’s Career:

“As you know, EMPEROR developed, at some point, I ended up making more and more of the music and eventually, I did all the music,” frontman Ihsahn stated to Loud TV. “We’d rather stop at the level where we were all creatively involved, rather than doing it for keeping the logo or for any of those reasons. At this point, there’s so much nostalgia attached to what we do, and we’ve been in the privileged position that people have developed similar relationships to these old songs that we did, as we are fans, to other bands. It’s a very humbling position to be in. If you turned it around, what kind of EMPEROR could we possibly do? What kind of EMPEROR could we possibly do? We should make something that sounds like old EMPEROR? Or should we do something like EMPEROR would sound today? If it was up to me, EMPEROR would sound like my solo records because that’s how I write metal. It’s kind of a lose-lose thing. The whole point of black metal, people want something that is real and has integrity of what it is. At this point, none of us can see any reason to do that beyond what we already do. Just speaking for myself, I get to play all these old songs to people who have this strong relationship to it, in a similar way as I as a fan, have. But I also get to do my solo albums and continue that musical journey, and I see no reason to change that. We are at a very fine position now that we all just get to do what all of us wants. If there’s some kind of festival or some kind of show that doesn’t fit into our schedule, that’s fine. We do just the stuff that is cool for us to do.”

Right now, when it comes to making an album, we really want to give our fans just Linkin Park. We don’t want to water it down with anything else or confuse it with anything else. Meteora is just us and that’s where our focus has been. So hopefully the fans can enjoy that.”-Mike Shinoda 2003

Linkin Park Celebrates 20Th Anniversary Of 'Meteora' With Unreleased Song "Lost" W/ Chester Bennington! 4

From Rolling Stone Magazine In 2003 Describing Meteora:

“Linkin Park sound most alive when escaping the constraints of their genre. On “Breaking the Habit,” guitarist Brad Delson sticks the metal riffs in temporary storage. As Bennington croons, the band swirls twice as fast around him while strings swell and drums bolt. Although the song’s anguished grandeur is rooted in the band’s New Wave influences, the result bears little resemblance to the past or present. This suits Linkin Park’s futurist vibe and lives up to the promise of Meteora‘s lavish packaging. Much of the album is just excellent craft; on “Breaking the Habit,” Linkin Park make some risky, beautiful art.”

Grey Daze – From Local Grunge Heroes to Festival Appearances

The Legacy Of Grey Daze Deserves To Shine Forever

The Phoenix, Arizona music scene of the early 1990s was home to many talented musicians and bands, but one band stood out from the rest. Grey Daze was a local grunge-inspired band that was determined to bring their own version of the Seattle sound to the Phoenix area. The band was comprised of Cristin Davis (guitar), Mace Beyers (bass), and Sean Dowdell (drums) who were searching for the perfect vocalist to lead them on their musical journey. After months of searching, they found their fearless frontman in a young 15-year-old singer from Tempe, Arizona by the name of Chester Bennington.

With his raw and powerful vocals, Chester quickly became an integral part of the group and helped propel Grey Daze into local stardom. The band released two full-length albums, 1994’s “Wake Me” and 1997’s “No Sun Today. Although Grey Daze disbanded in 1998, Chester Bennington personally planned a Grey Daze reunion in 2017. Sadly, it never happened due to his untimely passing. To honor Chester Bennington’s legacy and what he started, Grey Daze (Mace Beyers, Cristin Davis, Sean Dowdell) jumped into the studio to re-imagine classic Grey Daze material with help from members of Korn, Bush, Shiny Toy Guns, P.O.D., and more! The result of their hard work was the 2020 release of “Amends”, which properly celebrated the legacy of Grey Daze and honored Chester Bennington’s groundbreaking musical talent.

Celebrating the Legacy of Chester Bennington

The band held several open auditions to find the perfect vocalist to lead them on their musical journey. After months of searching, they found their fearless frontman in a young 15 year old singer from Tempe, Arizona, by the name of Chester Bennington. Long before Linkin Park became the best selling recording artist of the 21st century. With his raw powerful vocals and attitude that could rival Scott Weiland, Chester quickly became an integral part of the group and helped propel Grey Daze into local stardom. As their popularity grew, so did their ambition. The band would swiftly release two full-length albums. 1994’s ‘Wake Me’ and 1997’s ‘No Sun Today’. While a few of their songs even received airplay on local radio stations around Arizona. Grey Daze would abruptly disband in 1998. Although, a reunion was planned in 2017 by Chester Bennington personally. We all know why it sadly never happened. And to honor what Chester Bennginton started, Grey Daze (Mace Beyers, Cristin Davis, Sean Dowdell) jumped into the studio to re-imagine classic Grey Daze material with help from members of Korn, Bush, Shiny Toy Guns, P.O.D., and more! The 2020 ‘Amends’ release properly celebrated the legacy and honor of Chester Bennington’s groundbreaking musical talent. As its opening track ‘Sickness’ is a perfect embodiment of Chester’s soaring vocals. The snarl of distorted guitars, driving drums and deep bass lines also help set an intense mood that conveys a sense of danger, but it also captures the aspirational reach of wanting to go further than you ever thought possible.

Lyrically, it speaks to the desire to break away from conformity and daringly explore your own potential; as Chester Bennington bellows “It’s Calling Me!” It’s an anthem for anyone with an insatiable appetite to survive heartache, loneliness, and capture happiness again. With its bold soundscapes and haunting lyrics, the debut of ‘Sickness’ across FM Radio invited listeners of all types of music genres to push our boundaries and take risks without fear. Through embracing our wildest impulses we can discover what we’re truly capable of achieving in life – that is something worth celebrating!

Static-X Unleash Gut Punching Cover of NIN’s ‘Terrible Lie’! ‘Project Regeneration Vol 2’. Due Out Nov 3rd!

Get your evil disco horns towards the sky! Static-X, the platinum-selling industrial metal outfit, have officially released their cover of the 1989 ‘Pretty Hate Machine’ classic by Nine Inch Nails, “Terrible Lie”. This new version even features vocals from the band’s late and great frontman, Wayne Static!

This release marks the first time since Static X’s acclaimed LP ‘Project: Regeneration Vol. 1’ that new music has been released featuring Wayne Static’s very own vocals. The song was recorded during the sessions for Static-X’s ‘Cult of Static’ (2009) album. It is an emotional tribute to their beloved former frontman and aims to honor his legacy.

As Static-X’s version of “Terrible Lie” is a heavier and more powerful interpretation of the classic track. The up-tempo drums and dark synths give it a sinister edge, while Wayne Static’s powerful growls remain as captivating as ever.

The impending release of ‘Project Regeneration Vol. 2’ marks a defining moment for Static-X’s collective career; it will be the last album to contain Wayne Static tracks. Making this upcoming LP bittersweet for fans, knowing that this era of the group has come to an end, yet there is anticipation and excitement for what lies ahead. The music produced by current vocalist/guitarist Xer0 has been instrumental in crafting their signature sound, which undoubtedly left its mark on countless listeners.

The production Xer0 be bringing to the table is said to be truly incomparable and will live on through his contributions to this record. Mixing and mastering duties will be brought forth by Ulrich Wild (Static-X, Taproot). ‘Project Regeneration Vol. 2.’ is scheduled to be unleashed for the whole world to hear on Friday, November 3rd, 2023. Static-X Members & Family Speaking of Project Regeneration Vol 2:

Tony Campos:

“I am so happy that the recording for ‘Project Regeneration: Vol. 2‘ is finally finished, and the album is currently being mixed by our long-time producer Ulrich Wild. The only thing left is for the vinyl manufacturing to be completed.

I am proud to say that between Project Regeneration: Vol. 1‘ and ‘Project Regeneration: Vol. 2‘, we have been able to bring the fans 25 brand new Static-X songs, most of which feature Wayne Static on lead vocals. Nobody would have imagined that any of this could even be possible a few short years ago.”

Xer0:

“We are so grateful to Wayne’s family for giving us their blessings and trusting us to complete Wayne’s final works. This has been an incredibly challenging task, to say the least, and it has all been done with an immense amount of love and respect. I am also grateful to all of the Static-X fans around the world for all of the love and support they have shown towards me.”

Wayne Static’s younger sister Aimee:

“We all miss Wayne very much and we are so proud of the way that the band has chosen to honor him through the completion of his final works. They continue to place an emphasis on his presence within their live shows and it’s been incredible to see the fans continue to connect with the band’s music and with Wayne‘s memory. We fully support the journey that Static-X is currently on, and we know that Wayne would be incredibly grateful for all of the hard work that Tony, Ken, Koichi, and Xer0 have done over the past few years.”

Ken Jay:

Due to this being a two-part album and the fans having already been treated to 13 original songs from Vol. 1, we thought it would be fun to share the NIN cover, as we announce the completion of Vol 2. ‘Terrible Lie’ is just a taste of what is to come, and we can’t wait for fans to heart the rest of this album!”

Industrial Legends Skinny Puppy Announce Spring 2023 Farewell Tour!

Industrial Legends Skinny Puppy Announce Spring 2023 Farewell Tour!

After 40 years, Industrial Legends Skinny Puppy Announce Spring 2023 Farewell Tour!

Skinny Puppy (formed in 1982) is among the most influential industrial music acts to emerge in the 1980’s. Drawing from the pioneering work of bands like Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, and Suicide, they formed a dark avant-industrial sound that has inspired countless other musicians to this day. Especially Nine Inch Nails and Combichrist! Blending metal guitars, drum machines, sampling techniques, and various synthesized sounds into their unique musical palette, Skinny Puppy created an atmosphere of alienation and horror within their songs that evoked a feeling of postmodern dread. Their albums tackled themes such as animal testing, nuclear war, addiction and abuse — topics still relevant today — which made them one of the first politically minded industrial groups.

And now the Industrial music legends Skinny Puppy are celebrating their 40th anniversary a little late, with a final tour this spring dubbed “Skinny Puppy: When Nothing Is True…Anything Is Possible: Final Tour.” As one of the original groups in the industrial genre, Skinny Puppy’s influence on modern music and culture is undeniable. From heavy electronics to dark experimental soundscapes, the band has pioneered trends that have influenced generations of musicians. While the band initially made its mark in the 1980s, their presence can still be felt throughout contemporary electronic music today.

The impending tour celebrates not only four decades since their formation but also marks an end to one of industrial music’s greatest legacies. Onstage, Skinny Puppy will bring together all eras of their catalog, from classic hits like “Worlock” and “Dig It” to more recent works such as 2013’s comeback LP ‘Weapon’! Lead Into Gold will be direct opening support.

It’s been eight long years since we’ve toured and there is no better way to end our run as a group than with a tour celebrating our 40th anniversary,” Skinny Puppy expressed across social media in a joint statement. To our west coast fans, don’t worry! We’ll see you soon!”

Skinny Puppy’s farewell tour will be produced by Live Nation,. And looks to be starting out on April 6th at Aztec Theater in San Antonio, Texas. Then making stops around the U.S. in Atlanta, New Orleans, New York, Minneapolis and more before fully concluding in Seattle at Neptune on May 9th. Skinny Puppy will also be rocking faces off at the “Sick New World” festival in Las Vegas on Saturday, May 13th.

Public ticket sales for Skinny Puppy’s farewell tour will begin on Friday, February 10th, at 10 a.m. local on Ticketmaster.com. Peep all the scheduled dates below!

Maggots Rejoice! Slipknot Surprises Fans With “Bone Church” Single!

Maggots Rejoice! Slipknot Surprises Fans With “Bone Church” Single!

Hot damn! We here at Noise from the Pit are beyond stoked about this one! Iowa legends Slipknot, one of the longest-running and most successful metal/hard rock bands of the 21st century, has surprised fans with the sudden release of a standalone single entitled “Bone Church”! The surprise experimental hard hitting single makes complete sense. As it is in line with what Slipknot percussionist and founding member Shawn “Clown” Crahan’s envisioned for the band moving forward; dropping singles instead of full length LP’s.

Founding Slipknot percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan made a statement today in regards to the mysterious release of “Bone Church” exclaiming, “The single is one that’s been jammed backstage ever since the .5: The Gray Chapter tour, and has finally made it out into the world. If you’re looking for a Slipknot rager, you’re in the wrong place – this one is all about downtrodden tempos and muffled vocals. It’s excellent.”

“On the road, we have a ‘jam room’ set up backstage at every show, where we play, practice, warm up and sometimes try out new ideas,” said Crahan of the single. “‘Bone Church’ started life in a jam room on the .5: The Gray Chapter tour. We’ve been bringing it closer and closer to life ever since, and finally, here it is. This one is for the fans – a further vision deeper into Slipknot‘s history, which is still being written. Enjoy.”

In a recent NME interview, Clown stated that “a new chapter of the band might be more singles-focused”. Further explaining, “absolute albums are going to be a thing of the past” because “physical product is becoming obsolete.”

“I always thought, ‘What would it be like if Slipknot was big enough that we weren’t held to albums?’ Let’s say Clown could convince you, ‘Hey, instead of waiting two years for 12 songs, I’m gonna give you one song every month.’ So in reality, I’m shaving a year off for the same thing.”

“You have to go with me on this journey, but what I promise you is, there’s artwork that goes with it, there’s utility that goes with it, it’s cheaper than what a normal individual song would be… And it’s gone through all the filters — it’s gone through the band, it’s gone through [singer] Corey Taylor, it’s gone through a professional mixer and masterer — no avenues have been chopped up, it’s all business as usual. And we want to do this because I think it’s time for you, our fans, to get everything.”
