Grey Daze – From Local Grunge Heroes to Festival Appearances

The Legacy Of Grey Daze Deserves To Shine Forever

The Phoenix, Arizona music scene of the early 1990s was home to many talented musicians and bands, but one band stood out from the rest. Grey Daze was a local grunge-inspired band that was determined to bring their own version of the Seattle sound to the Phoenix area. The band was comprised of Cristin Davis (guitar), Mace Beyers (bass), and Sean Dowdell (drums) who were searching for the perfect vocalist to lead them on their musical journey. After months of searching, they found their fearless frontman in a young 15-year-old singer from Tempe, Arizona by the name of Chester Bennington.

With his raw and powerful vocals, Chester quickly became an integral part of the group and helped propel Grey Daze into local stardom. The band released two full-length albums, 1994’s “Wake Me” and 1997’s “No Sun Today. Although Grey Daze disbanded in 1998, Chester Bennington personally planned a Grey Daze reunion in 2017. Sadly, it never happened due to his untimely passing. To honor Chester Bennington’s legacy and what he started, Grey Daze (Mace Beyers, Cristin Davis, Sean Dowdell) jumped into the studio to re-imagine classic Grey Daze material with help from members of Korn, Bush, Shiny Toy Guns, P.O.D., and more! The result of their hard work was the 2020 release of “Amends”, which properly celebrated the legacy of Grey Daze and honored Chester Bennington’s groundbreaking musical talent.

Celebrating the Legacy of Chester Bennington

The band held several open auditions to find the perfect vocalist to lead them on their musical journey. After months of searching, they found their fearless frontman in a young 15 year old singer from Tempe, Arizona, by the name of Chester Bennington. Long before Linkin Park became the best selling recording artist of the 21st century. With his raw powerful vocals and attitude that could rival Scott Weiland, Chester quickly became an integral part of the group and helped propel Grey Daze into local stardom. As their popularity grew, so did their ambition. The band would swiftly release two full-length albums. 1994’s ‘Wake Me’ and 1997’s ‘No Sun Today’. While a few of their songs even received airplay on local radio stations around Arizona. Grey Daze would abruptly disband in 1998. Although, a reunion was planned in 2017 by Chester Bennington personally. We all know why it sadly never happened. And to honor what Chester Bennginton started, Grey Daze (Mace Beyers, Cristin Davis, Sean Dowdell) jumped into the studio to re-imagine classic Grey Daze material with help from members of Korn, Bush, Shiny Toy Guns, P.O.D., and more! The 2020 ‘Amends’ release properly celebrated the legacy and honor of Chester Bennington’s groundbreaking musical talent. As its opening track ‘Sickness’ is a perfect embodiment of Chester’s soaring vocals. The snarl of distorted guitars, driving drums and deep bass lines also help set an intense mood that conveys a sense of danger, but it also captures the aspirational reach of wanting to go further than you ever thought possible.
