CARCASS Mini History Lesson

The European death metal scene received a jolt of energy with the 2013 announcement that goregrind melodic death metal pioneers Carcass were reuniting after an 17-year hiatus. The band, which helped define and expand the extreme metal genre in the 1980s and early 1990s was welcome back with great heavy metal joy!

CARCASS was formed in 1985 and quickly gained notoriety for their extreme sound and aggressive lyrics. Their classic albums ‘Symphonies of Sickness’ (1989) and ‘Necroticism: Descanting the Insalubrious’ (1991) established them as innovators in the death metal world, while subsequent releases pushed their sound even further into progressive metal territories. After going on indefinite hiatus in 1996, metal fans far and wide could only dream and hope that CARCASS would reunite to take over the underworld of heavy metal again. And their heavy metal prayers were answered when CARCASS unleashed the acclaimed 2013 comeback record “Surgical Steel! Their latest LP “Torn Arteries” proved to the heavy metal masses that the groundbreaking extreme music of CARCASS will never die!
