Jose Mangin is one of the most recognizable figures in hard rock, heavy metal, and extreme music culture. His voice has been heard around the world as he’s transcended boundaries with an undeniable passion for his craft. Mangin first started out as a fan of metal music back in the late 90’s before becoming a disc jockey for SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal channel. His enthusiasm for this kind of music was contagious and it wasn’t long before people took notice and he became an ambassador for all things metal and hard rock. He is well respected in the industry, hosting shows like Ozzfest, Knotfest, The Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards Show, as well as participating in many interviews with artists ranging from Slipknot to Testament. And now the influential Sirius XM host will awesomely be launching “Headbang For Science“; an annual $30,000 scholarship in regards to “Supporting the next generation of Heavy Metal lovers pursuing an education in healthcare or the physical sciences.” As three different heavy metal winners pursuing an education in healthcare or physical sciences, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, will be chosen to each receive an $11,000 award, annually. “SiriusXM pioneer curator/host, and Founder of Headbang For Science, Jose “Metal Ambassador” Mangin launches the annual $33,000 Headbang For Science Scholarship to support the next generation of Heavy Metal lovers pursuing an education in healthcare or the physical sciences. Three winners chosen annually will each receive an $11,000 award.”

“Finally diehard Headbangers can achieve national recognition and monetary rewards for their educational achievements,” said Mangin. “I want to encourage students to excel in school, love their Metal, and give them financial and motivational support towards a successful future in healthcare/science.”

Jose is a dedicated advocate for education in the sciences for the Heavy Metal community. Studying Chemistry at the University of Arizona before going to Grad School for Pharmacy at the University of Tennessee, Jose knows the value of an education in the sciences first-hand. “I wouldn’t have this blessed career and life if it weren’t for my pursuit of a Pharmacy degree. I owe everything to my education.”

“To give back, Mangin founded Headbang For Science Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (Federal Tax ID# 47-1927892) dedicated to funding the education of Metalheads studying the sciences.”

“The $33,000 Headbang For Science scholarship will go to three “far beyond driven” students who have excellent grades, financial need, and a deep passion for Heavy Metal music. All high school seniors, four-year undergraduate students, or graduate students who are pursuing degrees in healthcare or physical sciences, possess a passion for Heavy Metal, and have a 3.0 GPA or higher may apply.”
