A third full-length album by Greta Van Fleet is nearing completion.
Heavy Consequence interviewed Metallica during the “black carpet” ceremony that preceded Metallica’s “Helping Hands” benefit concert (which Greta Van Fleet supported and was the supporting act).
“We are wrapping it up as we speak,” drummer Danny Wagner said of the follow-up to 2021’s The Battle at Garden’s Gate. “It’s nearing completion, and we’re very excited about it.”
Added bassist Sam Kiszka: “We’re going back to almost the garage days, with the raw energy of the sound. But we’re expanding on that because we’re the best musicians ever.”
Wagner clarified, “Not [the best musicians] that have ever existed, but we have ever existed,” to which Kiszka joked, “We’re the best musicians of all time.”
Kiszka’s remarks second his prior comments regarding the forthcoming album’s sound the band was going back to “the roots” of its early days.
“It’s like the whole concept of going back almost to the roots of what we did, kind of bringing our heads back to that garage time,” Kiszka said back in September. “And not spending all this time making it perfect. But just capturing what’s going on and … making it exciting, raw, and energetic.”
Greta Van Fleet may release a new album next year, and they will support Metallica’s 2023-2024 world tour in March.
In October, Greta Van Fleet’s headlining concerts were initially postponed and rescheduled after singer Josh Kiszka ruptured his eardrum. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster for the rescheduled dates, which begin March 6th in Jacksonville, Florida, and conclude March 28th in Sacramento, California.
Greta Van Fleet is an American rock band from Frankenmuth, Michigan, formed in 2012. Since then, the band has released two EPs and one studio album. Their most recent EP, From the Fires, was released last month and contained new singles, “Safari Song” and “You’re The One.” From the Fires is up for Best Rock Album at this year’s Grammy Awards.
Their debut album, Anthem of the Peaceful Army, was released on October 19th, 2018, and topped the Billboard Rock Album charts in week one. The album’s first single, “When The Curtain Falls,” was released ahead of it in July 2018 and became their third number-one single on the U.S. Billboard Mainstream Rock charts. When The Curtain Falls also marked the band’s return to rock music — their previous albums have been heavier on pop rock and alternative rock. Anthem for the Peaceful Army also debuted at Number One on the Billboard Top Album Sales charts in Week One.
