Guitar Prodigy Maya Neelakantan Shreds a 22 song cut of TOOL songs

Oftentimes, we see young musicians using the internet to showcase their skills and encourage others to do the same, creating a whole community of younger players they can learn from.

I would like to introduce you to Maya Neelakantan, a 9-year-old guitarist and huge Tool fan who is extremely talented. Her previous YouTube videos have included cuts like “7empest” and a 15-song medley of Tool tracks, but she has outdone herself this time.

The guitar prodigy just released a 22-song, 20-plus minute medley of her heroes’ work, which you can listen to just above. Neelakantan seamlessly runs through riffs from the entire Tool catalog—from the Opiate EP to the latest album Fear Inoculum, plus “Opiate 2,” which was released as a single in 2022.

“It was a special experience to be able to see how Tool evolved musically over the years by playing these songs in order,” Maya said in the YouTube description. It’s even more thrilling than listening to the songs. Hearing the songs from the guitar perspective is a completely new experience!”

It’s a wonderful achievement in the video above, and a big shoutout to Maya. By the time Tool records a new album, Maya may be old enough to produce it!

Have you ever heard a child guitar prodigy play? They are these amazing young musicians who pick up the guitar and just blow your mind with their talent and skill. It’s truly inspiring to see how quickly they progress, playing complex pieces and even composing their own music. It’s not just about their technical abilities, but also their passion and love for the instrument. I think it’s so cool how they can take the stage and perform in public, or even compete in music competitions. It’s a reminder that with dedication and hard work, anyone can achieve their dreams.
