Smile Empty Soul’s 2003 Debut Release Still Influences Modern Hard Rock 20 years later!
On May 27, 2003 via Lava Records, Smile Empty Soul unleashed released their self-titled debut album. And its intense, brooding affair instantaneously took the hard rock music scene by storm. Led by guitarist and principle songwriter Sean Danielson, Smile Empty Soul refused to back down on their signature sound – a blend of hard rock and alternative that never backed down from controversial topics.
The album opens with their biggest hit “Bottom of a Bottle,” an intensely personal narrative about loneliness and desperation. From there, it moves onto “Silhouettes ” – an anthem for anyone who has ever felt overwhelmed by life’s struggles. The album also features an aggressive awareness behind the hidden child abuse problems that still plague the world today through their battered and bruised “Nowhere Kids” single. Above all, this 2003 masterpiece still influences modern hard rock today with its raw originality.
