The Nu-Metal movement/genre never died! And it continues to be force to be reckoned with among the music industry worldwide! Awesome enough the SUGAR: The Nu-Metal Party touring festival has been officially announced! Here’s the official press release from Speakeasy PR in regards to the SUGAR: The Nu-Metal Party tour festival announcement.
From Speakeasy PR:
“Jan. 24, 2023 – SUGAR: THE NU-METAL PARTY, a celebration of the musical phenomenon that brought us Korn, System of a Down, Deftones, and Slipknot along with baggy jeans, pierced eyebrows and an onslaught of flame tattoos, kicks off nationwide this Spring, with the DJ-hosted event making its debut in multiple U.S. cities including Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Detroit, and Atlanta.”
“I think that nu-metal is one of the most impactful subgenres of heavy metal to ever exist in terms of how it rippled through the pop-culture of the time,” says Brian Howe, lead DJ and production manager for SUGAR: THE NU-METAL PARTY. “It’s already been about 25 years since bands like Korn and Limp Bizkit were all over MTV and if every other culturally significant genre of music from the past 5 decades can have its own dance night why not nu-metal? As someone who loved listening to these bands as a kid and enjoys going out with friends as an adult it just makes perfect sense for us to create a ‘nu’ space where these bands and the genre can be celebrated.”
SUGAR: THE NU-METAL PARTY brings nu-metal back to the underground that created it, playing the classic, fist-pumping tracks that birthed a movement while also incorporating the nu-wave of bands re-igniting the genre, from Bad Omens and Code Orange, to Tallah and Wargasm, Spiritbox and Turnstile.

What Is Nu-Metal?
Nu-Metal is a genre of music that has grown tremendously in popularity since the 1990s. It was first created by combining experimental metal and hip hop elements, such as deep bass and funk beats, with more modern electronic instruments like DJ decks and digital sound. The result is a unique mix of both heavy metal riffs and hard-hitting rap verses. Nu-Metal often sounds much different than other metal genres, like thrash or industrial. It has been said to be “nuanced” because it blends together styles from multiple genres that wouldn’t normally be associated with one another.
Themes explored in Nu-Metal range greatly, but they are typically darker than those of other metal genres. Subjects such as depression, anger issues and frustration toward society are common topics found in its lyrics. Korn, Coal Chamber, Kittie, Limp Bizkit, Deftones, Slipknot, Linkin Park, and Hed P.E. are considered by many to be the leaders of the sub-genre.
