The Mudvayne Vocalist Shows The Fans His Dynamic Range
For fans of the American heavy metal band Mudvayne, their charismatic lead vocalist Chad Gray has been a cornerstone of the group for over 20 years. But now, Chad is stepping out on his own with his first solo song: “Always On My Mind.” The new cover single captures the sensitive and softer emotion. Gray’s voice has made Mudvayne a fan favorite while also giving us a glimpse into Chad’s evolution as an artist. Hearing him sing “Always On My Mind,” reflects Chad’s growth as an artist.
Chad Gray, the frontman for the metal band frontman, has stepped into his softer side with this cover. The song is a sweet love song dedicated to his wife, Shannon Gunz, of Sirius XM Satellite Radio. She is known for hosting several Sirius XM channels, including Turbo, Octane, and Ozzy’s Boneyard.
The Love Story of Chad Gray and Shannon Gunz: From Radio Show Meeting To True Love
The couple met while working on a radio show and married in 2020. Chad says that Shannon has always been his rock, and he wanted to write a song to show her how much she means to him. This is a beautiful ballad that showcases Chad’s sensitive side. He sings about how Shannon is always on his mind, no matter what he’s doing or where he is in the world.
The lyrics are touching and heartfelt, and the song’s overall message is clear: Chad loves Shannon very much, and she must mean the world to him. We’re sure this sweet song is a bit softer and gentler than what we are used to hearing from the Mudvayne and HELLYEAH vocalist. Nonetheless, it’s a beautiful rendition and a sweet gesture to the Sirius Satellite Radio host.
Chad Gray Decides To Share This Solo Cover With Fans Worldwide
Chad Gray sings gently over a piano and a few strings in the video below for the song. The video also features clips of him dancing along with his wife, Sirius XM radio host Shannon Gunz, on their wedding day. It’s a sweet and simple video that perfectly captures the spirit of the song.
Chad Grey had a moment to discuss the wedding day nuptial gesture. It was very gentle and something I’m sure he would never forget. Check it out:
“Planning a wedding is grueling — from flowers to location to picking the music. We initially chose ‘Dream On’ for our first dance song. Now I’m not sure how or why I landed on ‘Always on my Mind,'” Gray said in a press release.
The vocalist recalled hearing the song in passing and being moved by its lyrics.
“It was super cool when I started it because I realized that this was such a different way of singing. No one has ever heard me doing anything like this,” he continued. “This was done for my wedding, but I thought, ‘Should I release this song to the public?’ I always talk about how I look at my fans as more than fans. They’re family, and I wanted to share this moment with them.“

How The Sirius Satellite Radio Host Shannon Gunz Got Her Start
Radio host for SiriusXM isn’t precisely what Shannon Gunz expected, but she says it proves that life can surprise you with a rewarding career.
She grew up in Chino Valley, Arizona, with a love for music, the outdoors, and driving a stick shift. As a young adult, she moved to the Phoenix area for college.
Initially pursuing an Interior Design degree at MCC in 2002, Shannon’s focus changed during her studies when she took a communication class.
At that point, she decided to pursue a degree in communications. “I really enjoyed looking at how relationships work, how conversations develop, and how certain people open up,” she said.
Shannon decided to pursue a career in on-air talent after one of her roommates told her she’d make a great talk show host because of her outgoing personality and love of music.
Upon graduating with an Associate of Arts in General Education, Shannon transferred to Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, where she secured an internship.
Small-Town Girl To The Big Apple
“I remember telling my dad that I wanted to do something really big for my internship,” she said. “Moving to New York seemed like the right thing to do.”
A search for an internship led Shannon to Sirius Satellite Radio, formerly SiriusXM, in New York! The internship was a perfect fit, not only because she dreamed of becoming a radio host but also because of her love of rock music. A few months later, Shannon had an interview on the books as she drove across the country.
Where It All Began For The Soon To Be Radio Host
Her trip to the Big Apple was thrilling in more ways than one; she found out her interviewers would be Steve Covino and Rich Davis, hosts of The Covino & Rich Show. While on the couch, waiting for her moment, Shannon realized that none other than Janet Jackson was there. This made her experience all the more exciting! Not long after, she accepted a much-coveted internship offer.
The novelty of Shannon’s small-town background and her outgoing personality led Covino and Rich to give her a shot on air the first week.
Her Arizona roots appealed to satellite radio listeners. Many connected with her through her experiences growing up in the Southwest.
Her internship went so well that Shannon decided to stay in New York. She transferred to Seton Hall University, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social work.
After graduating, she worked for SiriusXM and moved around the country a bit before settling in Las Vegas.
Since joining SiriusXM nearly 15 years ago, Shannon has hosted the Ozzy’s Boneyard and Turbo stations during the week and the Octane station on weekends. Before the pandemic struck, she attended music festivals and concerts, interviewing artists and sharing her experiences. Then 2020 hit.
In the latter half of 2020, more bands began to quarantine themselves to get back in the studio and start performing virtually as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Her professional and personal lives revolve around music. In October 2020, Shannon married Chad Gray, the lead vocalist for two bands – Hellyeah and Mudvayne.
