“I cannot tell you how hard I’ve been pushing for that” ~ Margot Robbie

Harley Quinn is a character that Margot Robbie has been advocating for. She even thinks Harley may be ready for some development in her romance arc with Poison Ivy.

“I have been pushing for that for years,” Robbie said. “I cannot tell you how hard I’ve been pushing for that. I want it too.”

Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy have teamed up a few times in the comic books, and their relationship was central to Season 3 of the Harley Quinn animated series. But that’s not true of their film counterparts, where the Joker has fared better and Quinn has been more closely associated with him.

Robbie knows she needs someone to fill the role of Poison Ivy, but she hasn’t found an actress to play the part. “Honestly, when I picture it, I always picture like a comic book idea of Poison Ivy,” Robbie told E! “I don’t really imagine a movie actress doing it, but that would be amazing.”

Robbie has starred as Harley Quinn three times, in Suicide Squad and two other films. At first, James Gunn directed those films but now he’s the new co-head of DC Studios. He’s spoken out in defense of Robbie and it wouldn’t be surprising if she obtained the role again sometime in the future. But for now, Lady Gaga will play Harley in Joker: Folie à Deux.

“It’s such an honor to have built a foundation strong enough that Harley can now be one of those characters that other actors get to have a go at playing,” Robbie told MTV News in October. “And I think she’ll do something incredible with it.”

Joker: Folie à Deux is going to be in theaters on October 4th, 2024. Robbie is currently promoting Damien Chazelle’s new movie, Babylon. That one comes out on December 23rd.
