Jason David Frank, best known for playing Tommy Oliver — the Green Ranger on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers — has died due to mental illness. Known to many as JDF, the actor was only 49 when he passed away. Now, fans are mourning him and all he brought to the series. The world of Power Rangers is no stranger to loss. But perhaps none of these losses have hit fans harder than that of Jason David Frank. Frank was a fan favorite among Power Rangers fans, with many calling him the “heart and soul” of the franchise. His death has left many fans feeling heartbroken and nostalgic for the good old days of the Power Rangers. Frank will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Frank’s career: A look at Jason David Frank’s 20+ year career in the Power Rangers franchise.

Frank was born in 1973 in Covina, California, USA. He began his career as a child actor and soon found success with the role of Tommy Oliver, a green ranger on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The character became his trademark and he continued to play it until the series ended in 1995. Jason David Frank is well-known for playing Tommy Oliver from the long-running family television show Power Rangers. He is the voice of the character Emissary in Transformers: Titans Returns and upstages Bloodshot as Toothless in the highly anticipated project Ninjak vs. the Valiant Universe. Arguably the most popular and famous Power Ranger, Jason’s character was only intended to be in ten episodes. Due to his popularity, he was morphed into the most amount of different rangers in the show’s twenty-four-year history. He began as the Mighty Morphin Green Ranger, a bad boy turned good, and subsequently morphed into the Mighty Morphin White Ranger, Red Zeo, and Red Turbo, and then returned in 2004 as the Black Dino Thunder Ranger.

His martial arts are not just for television and films, Jason, an inductee of the World Karate Union Hall of Fame, is a highly accomplished and respected martial artist with 39 years of experience. In 1994, he created his own martial arts system, “Toso Kune Do,” which means “Way of the Fighting Fist” and incorporates many different aspects of martial arts. He holds an eighth-degree black belt in American Karate, and a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and in February 2013, he received the title of Master of Muay Thai from the world-renowned Muay Thai trainer Grand Master Toddy (Arjan). He is the owner and operator of Rising Sun Karate and MMA, with three schools in Texas and one in California.

In January 2013, Jason David Frank became the Guinness World Record Holder for the most 1-inch pine board broken during freefall. Jason, who was introduced to skydiving during Power Rangers, shattered the previous record with seven broken pine boards.

Frank’s death has hit hard in the Power Rangers fandom, but it has also shown that no man is immortal, even if they wear a costume and have special powers. Many are looking back at this era with great nostalgia because it was truly something unique. It just goes to show how important it is when young adults have heroes they can look up to and be inspired by.

JDF is survived by his four children and tJDF’s rep asks to please respect the privacy of his family and friends during this horrible time as we come to terms with the loss of such a wonderful human being. He loved his family, friends, and fans very much. He will truly be missed.”
