Discover the stunning new EP from Chino Moreno of Crosses – PERMANENT.RADIANT – & The Video For Holier, out now!
Chino Moreno, the frontman of the band Deftones, has shared a video for the new song “Holier” from his side project, ††† Crosses.
The song is the third they’ve released, following “SENSATION” and “VIVIEN,” both of which are featured on their new EP, “PERMANENT.RADIANT,” which was released via Warner Records yesterday (December 9). You can listen to the EP down below.
The song from the accompanying music video, which you can watch here, is a surreal journey through the protagonist’s topsy-turvy world.
Moreno and producer Shaun Lopez (also multi-instrumentalist) was interviewed by NME in January and spoke about the music they had been creating together. They said, they were “geeking out over sounds” and “trying to steer away from stuff being either too contemporary or too retro”.
“There are certain sounds that we’re drawn to, and that has quite a lot to do with the music we grew up listening to,” Moreno said. “Shaun and I have pretty similar tastes. It’s about using all of those influences, but not making something that sounds like it has been made for today or is trying to sound like the past.”
“We’re just taking those influences and running them through us. The moods that we try to create tend to come from quite a stark place. It’s not the most colorful music in the world, but once we tap into it it’s hard to go anywhere else. We just dive deeper into the darkness. We just run with it. It feels organic.”
The Beginnings of Crosses
The group originally formed in 2011, releasing two EPs and a self-titled album that year. They then went back to the studio in 2020 to cover “Cause And Effect’s The Beginning Of The End”. Just months later, they signed with Warner and released a cover of Q Lazzarus’s “Goodbye Horses.”
Earlier this year, they released two songs that didn’t make the cut for their new EP. Those two songs are ‘INITIATION’ and ‘PROTECTION’.
Deftones have always been recognized for their sound, which is guitar-driven and harmony-laden. The band will be taking the stage at the inaugural Sick New World Festival in May 2023. In addition to Deftones, System Of A Down, Korn, and Incubus will also be headlining the festival.
