This is the last Guardians of the Galaxy film. After director James Gunn confirmed that this would be the last time audiences will see the team of Guardians, Marvel Studios released the first trailer and poster for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Not only does it tease a major death and daring new cosmic characters, but it alludes to one of GOTG Vol. 1’s most iconic lines. “We’ll all fly away together, one last time,” Rocket Raccoon says in the trailer, “into the forever and beautiful sky.”
The sky on the Vol. 3 teaser poster is gorgeous, and it features a sunset over the team of Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Drax (Dave Bautista), Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Groot (Vin Diesel). What’s more? 2014 Gamora (Zoe Saldana) is shown flying with them on what looks like the wing of the Bowie.
Avengers, we’re a little worried about Star-Lord. He lost his sister Gamora in 2018 when Thanos killed her in Avengers; Infinity War. One of the only ways he can keep going is to fight for her and protect others. Without the Guardians to help him, he’ll have to rally as many allies as possible to defend the galaxy. If they don’t succeed, it could mean the end of our Guardian of the Galaxy family.
James Gunn Tells Us How Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Has Moments of Laughter but A Very Serious Tone
“Vol. 3 has a lot of the fun and goofy moments that have been a big part of the Guardians movies, but it also addresses some very serious and emotional storylines,” Gunn said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “It’s the end of the story for these characters, which makes for a heavy atmosphere.” The actors were all very invested because it was about telling their individual stories. The performances were so good!
Gunn continued: “I think I felt a lot of pressure before because it really matters to me that we end this story well. I’ll be honest, I started looking at all the trilogies that have existed throughout time, and in most trilogies, the third movie is awful. There’s a couple of exceptions, but when I say a couple, I mean like two or three. It’s very rare that the third movie in a franchise is good. So, it was important to me that we really ended this story in a good way.”
The next Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy movie, Volume 3, is set to release in theaters on May 5th, 2023.
