All eyes will be on Saraya this January 11th when she teams up with an unknown partner to take on Jamie Hayter and Dr. Britt Baker in a mixed tag team match for the AEW Women’s Championship. It will be the Irish wrestler’s first time back in the ring since her last mixed tag team match 5 years ago, where she defeated Dr. Britt Baker DMD at AEW Full Gear. Heading into her return, Saraya was encouraged by fans and friends to step away from physicality. But she said in a recent interview that she wants to come back for as long as she can, revealing that if there’s a chance for her to win the title someday, it would be “the perfect send-off.”

Speculation has run rampant on Saraya’s mystery partner. Many are expecting her to be teaming with a debuting Sasha Banks. Although Banks left WWE earlier this year, she recently made an appearance in NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom 17. It appears that AEW and New Japan have a working relationship, so the possibility of Banks making her way over is very real considering the upcoming partnership.

Forbes spoke with Saraya and she addressed these rumors, noting that all clues point to one character: Mercedes Varnado.

“I feel like anytime there’s a mystery, everyone always goes straight for Mercedes (laughs). They’re like – straight away – it’s her!” Saraya said. “Don’t forget that I’m just one of many attractive women. I can’t say anything about the future, but there are plenty of potential matches.”

Saraya and Banks have a history that goes back to the start of the women’s revolution in WWE in 2015. The two wrestlers had a one-on-one contest on Monday Night Raw just weeks before Saraya was forced to retire due to injury. The injury came at a live event in December 2017 and the opponent who delivered it was none other than Banks. However, Saraya has stressed that she doesn’t blame Banks for her retirement.

“The first person I texted as well was Mercedes, Sasha,” Saraya revealed shortly following her in-ring clearance. “I just said, ‘Hey sis, I just want to let you know since I know this whole thing was tough on you mentally, but my doctor just cleared me and told me my neck is 100% ready to go. I haven’t told anyone else but I know this will make you feel good. I’m back, haha.’ And she was over the moon and stuff like that.”

Banks has not been confirmed as Saraya’s tag partner and there is no telling when or if that will happen. However, it’s possible for them to face off down the line.

“I’ve always said that I would want to work with Sasha again in any capacity because she’s a pro,” Saraya continued. “In the wrestling side of things, she’s such a fantastic athlete, you can’t deny her talent. She’s fantastic.”
